Nursery Rooms
Brook House Nursery consists of four rooms divided into separate age groups – “Magpie room” (preschool room), “Owl room” (toddler room), “Hummingbird room” and “Robin room” (baby room unit).“Magpie room” have their ownconservatory / role play area. All rooms in our nursery are equipped with a range of stimulating and exciting toys and equipment, which help the children to develop their skills.
Nursery Gardens
Each room in our nursery has access to a shared garden and the preschool room has an additional garden for the older children exclusively. Children are encouraged to play outside each day.
Nursery Allotment
The nursery has its own allotment which gives the children lots of opportunities to use natural resources and “hands on” time to explore difficult concepts such as time, the seasons, growth, wildlife etc. The children grow a variety of vegetables which we then use in our tasty meals!
Robin room (7 months – 17 months)
Start your child’s early years journey in a caring environment that nurtures positive relationships and supports the transition between home and the nursery. In our Robin room you can find a sensory area with mirrors, a book corner, a sensory station, a black and white visual area, a range of treasure baskets, and free-access drawers with age-appropriate toys.
Hummingbird room (18 months – 2 and a half years)
The next step in your baby’s journey takes them to our Hummingbird room, where the children have access to frequently changed role play areas, a book corner, a small world play area and construction playkits. There is free access to different toys within the room, allowing the children to explore and play as they choose. Children begin to handle paint brushes, glue sticks and a variety of other art tools and materials.
Owl room (2 – 3 years old)
Once in the Owl room, the children learn social skills and develop their individual personalities. They have opportunities for construction with Duplo, stickle bricks, junk modelling, and magnets. Story time, mark making, and circle time provide an invaluable foundation for later reading and writing skills.
The children are taught skills such as safe scissor usage and pencil control. They also learn life skills, such as how to wash hands properly, how to look after and have respect for toys and equipment, and how to use the potty. We encourage and support their independence so that they feel ready to spend time with our qualified teacher in their final year at Brook House.
Magpie room (over 3 years old)
The Magpie room builds on the skills learned throughout the nursery. Our aim is to prepare the children for school by building on their interests and experience, and through both child initiated and adult led activities. We also encourage creativity, independent thought, problem solving, a sense of community care for the environment, and we aim to build confidence and resilience.
